Not so much anymore, but back when the war was going on and for a few years after it ended. Vets weren't liked by the general populace because of negative media portrayals, so it was hard for vets to find work. Many were left homeless as a result, and the trauma of fighting a brutal and unpopular war didn't help them keep their heads on straight. This led to many officers encountering crazed homeless veterans, and that eventually became the stereotype. This led to many officers just assuming Vietnam veterans were all crazed war-criminals.
One of America's most recent and despicable tragedies wasn't the war, but how little we cared for the men who needed our love and support.

Vietnam vets did get regularly screwed by officers, regardless of color, but the most well known iteration of Rambo is Italian.

It isn't an exact science. Good PR is imperative to an officer's ability to serve and protect. Social media is a method of improving PR. This isn't complicated.

Them being bred as pit fighters also made them ideal for looking after children. A protective dog is good, a protective dog bred to take damage is even better.

I meant a larger caliber. And it's my house, I think I'd have a better chance on getting the drop on an intruder than vice versa. Especially considering the motion activated lights, NV cameras, bulldog and pitbull, guns stashed throughout the house, and the fact that I've memorized my home's layout enough to navigate blind if I had too.

But really, people using melee weapons can cross the room before a gunman can get a shot off. I think the even the police are allowed to shoot someone armed with a bat or knife if the assailant makes a sudden move at 21 feet or closer.

PR is important too. If the people don't recognise the police as decent, relatable people, they will be less willing to approach or cooperate with them.

Intelligence should not be a factor. Are the kids well fed? Do the parents help the kids pursue social and educational opportunities? Those are the questions that matter. This sets a dangerous precedent and should be summarily reversed and reevaluated.

I'd rather not force cops to take stupid risks because they don't have the right gear.
The police are not supposed to match the criminal's force, they are supposed to exceed it.
Fists and threats are met with batons and tazers, blades and bats with guns, and guns with overwhelming force.
