Hell, just in my lifetime, people threw a shitfit over Mortal Kombat. Not the reboot's gore-y violence. The cartoon-y violence from the original. We had a senate hearing over it.

I worked for Wal-Mart for a winter season. I even wrote about my experience in it in a blog called Customers of Derp-Mart. Comparing my early blog posts to my last really shows just how angry you get at customers and management.

The fact that the government is dictating what can and cannot be taught in universities is a bit...unsettling. I mean, just because something doesn't have merit in a job market, doesn't mean it's not worth learning about. Knowing about art and music history has little real-world application but I believe learning from the past is still important, even if one will never use it for employment purposes.

I feel old. A lot of my teachers used those classic BBC documentaries. Not like TED Talks were widely available before broadband.

If there's one thing I'd make mandatory, it's working in some sort of service job. Fast food or retail. I mean, make part of school curriculum or something. Something that allows people to feel what it's like from the other side.
