I think it might have to do with a deeply seated puritanical mindset that anything that can bleed for a week and not die is witchcraft and the work of the devil.
The most best way to get blood out of clothes.. is to spit on the spot and rub the spit into the spot..Then wash it under cold water. The enzymes in your spit will break down the blood and make it completely disappear. No soap needed. I just did it today when I dripped onto my pants apparently when I was pulling my pants up after going to the bathroom. Didn't even notice until I decided to look at myself a couple hours later. However I haven't tried it on clothes after its been there longer than that or with the giant, giant spots you get in the mornings. the last time I tried to didn't have enough spit to go around.
