Not right. Firstly the fact it has a name other than "being friends" implies otherwise. By default in pop culture the "friebdzone" is a place in which a person seeking more than platonic relations is kept as only a friend against their true desire. Secondly, we see in this and other use a negative connotation to the term. The phrase "sorry I can't hear you... so far in the friend zone"(sic) implies mocking, and is conferring a lesser status to him for it. If he chose to be her friend with no other motives- why would he be pitied or thought less of for not wanting to sleep with her or date? Why is he in the friend zone and not she? The assumption of course being as a man he wants her, or would say yes if she wanted him even if he hadn't thought about her that way. It's sexist to both and a primitive way of thinking.

WHAT IF THE GUY DOESNT WANT TO SMASH THE GIRL? WHY IS THAT ALWAYS ASSUMED? THERE ARE PLENTY OF INSTANCES OF “FRIENDZONE” THAT ARE JUST THEM WANTING TO BE FRIENDS AND NOT ASSUMED THAT THEY ARE DATING

I have a Female best friend. When we go out, people think we are dating because we know each other so well and we get along so well. And "friendzone" has nothing to do with it. She has a boyfriend she is happy with and I am working on my crush. It just feels good to have a Female best friend. There are some things which you can't talk about with your guys but, you can with that girl. People need to remember that friendship between opposite genders is still a thing.

All of my best friends save one are guys. I've just always gotten along better with them. Girls are sooo much drama (at least in my age groups they always were) and guys are just easier. They're mostly spoken for and thats okay. They're my most trusted confidants, and I'm theirs. It's nice to see I'm not the only one like that.
