1) That's skewing the numbers. You are involving the cost of the factory itself; in time it WILL pay for itself. 2) Elon's subsidies pale in comparison to every aspect of the supply chain from harvesting oil, refining it, and then burning it in other cars. 3) He's also actually making use of any RnD money he's gotten; not just with cars... compare SpaceX to Boeing or Lockheed. It's fucking ridiculous how much farther he's gone on so little. If Elon were around when Nixon nixed Von Braun's Mars Plan we'd be on fucking Europa right now and mining asteroids; paying it all back literally thousands of times over.

What use would there be to sending men to die on Mars when our own intelligence agencies and communication infrastructures needed resources?
