Pretty much. We didn’t breed them to be terribly bright so much as to do what we need more or less. When they’re still young, you can hold them by the hips and they can’t get away. If you do that long enough, they just figure they can’t get away. A horse used to that growing up- when it is fully grown and could easily get away of drag you or toss you away- all you have to do is take your index fingers and press them to its hips on either side. In its mind- it is now totally trapped. You’re “holding it” and it can’t get away. I mean... I’ve seen horses do some DUMB stuff. They often scare themselves. Regularly. But they are also very intelligent in so many ways. Certainly sensitive. For most people, I’d say stick to dogs.
