My fiance has a ph.D in Neuroscience, he works in a interdisciplinary lab with ppl who have ph.D's in psychology, computer science, physics, and many other disciplines.
They all live modestly, because there's no money in science. You work in science because you're passionate about it, not because it makes you rich.
Most of those post-docs still live with roommates and only very few are able to buy or take out credit, because no contract lasts longer than 4 to 5 years. After that you're out looking for a new position in another lab, so banks are not very willing to give you credit or give you a mortgage, since you can't provide proper guarentee you'll be able to pay it back.

Right? It's sad that the judge actually sympathises so much with the rapist that he feels sorry for sending him to jail. I can't imagine anything more backwards...

I don't think leaving a jailsentence out almost entirely is the only way, or even a good way, to rehibilitate someone. I agree that rehabilitation should be part of the sentence, but it shouldn't be the only one. It's completely unfair that he gets to live a normal life during weekdays as if he didn't just destroy someone's life.

I think it's vile. Being raped can make relationships difficult for decades after the fact and can severely destabilise a person and their sense of safety for an equally long time. Yet the rapist are let off with a slap on the wrist while the victims have to struggle for years just for some semblance normalcy??

They also didn't antibiotics, which meant that a simple scratch could kill you if it got infected... From all the women I know that have had children, they all went on antibiotics for some time after giving birth, to eliminate the risk of an infection...

I think my minor magical ability must be finding 4 leaf clovers. I have found them quite often and yesterday I found 2! Well, to be exact I found 1 4leaf clover and one 5 leaf clover, which I think must be luckier than the 4 leaf kind :P
