The second guy is Ryuk, a death god from the anime Death Note. Thise are the notebooks he's giving George R R Martin — if you write someone's name in it, they'll die. So, it's a joke on how all of his characters die.

Which ones? I don't want to start a war, I just want to learn more about this. I would think safe spaces would be a useful way to help traumatized people and to ease them slowly back into life. In what way do people misuse this concept? I'm genuinely curious; I've heard people complain about safe spaces but I'm still a little unclear about what they entail and who wants them.

No, it wouldn't. The contract was simply to get him to kiss her in order for her to become human. There was nothing in there that said she couldn't talk to him. Ursula took her voice as payment for the contract just to make it harder, but she never said talking to him was against the rules.

We're not debating the legality; of course it's legal. Ariel was an idiot and didn't read the fine print. The point is that she *can* read, and we do actually see her write 'Ariel' in the movie, in some very fancy handwriting. We get a close-up shot and everything.
