Yay for animals 19 comments

There are also tons of cosmetic companies that don't test on animals, so that proves it can be done. At this point, for cosmetics if you're testing on animals it's now at the tipping point into "unnecessary and unethical" territory. Animal testing for medicine is still necessary, but we are making progress toward being more humane and toward technologies to make it unneccessary.

Most people don't hate on her over the number...you do you. They hate on her because she doesn't own up to her dating habits and say "pfft, I do what I want." Instead she puts up that annoying, naive-innocent, "look at me, I'm just a plain, boring, normal girl" persona and sweeps her dating life under the rug to pretend it doesn't exist. Intended or not, it helps give her fans the impression that dating around and enjoying your sexuality is either bad and shouldn't be done or is dirty and shouldn't be talked about. Only nice, innocent girls get ahead. Look at Miley Cyrus...she's always been pretty low in the dating numbers but everyone slams her for being open about being a young adult woman having fun. Taylor Swift is a great musician, I love her work, but she's kind of a serial liar about who she is.

I hope they catch you before the terminals, otherwise TSA will have something to say about their plans and they'll have to go buy a ticket to get through.

That's the glory of there being 7 billion people in the world. There is an audience for everything and anything, and somebody sonewhere will always think something's good. You just gotta find them to market it to them.

It's law here, IN the driving manual, that you have your headlights turned on if the environment requires you to have your wipers going "either constantly or intermittently." Which is telling dumb people to turn on their lights even if it's just a drizzle. The number of people going 70 on the highway with no lights then getting pissed when they aren't seen is mindblowing.

That's kind of the point of like/dislike buttons. It's so people can say they agree or disagree without having to take the time to argue. Whining that people don't have the time/inclination to have a lengthy conversation with you on an image posting site is a little bit weird, don't you think? Do you complain when people don't explicitly state their reasons for upvoting as well, or are you just angry people dare to disagree?

That depends on the camera. For instance, speed cameras snap a picture using instantaneous detection, so it's pretty likely he was actually going faster than the camera was programmed to ignore if one of these got him. Then there are so-called red light cameras, these will snap a pic as soon as the car passes and hits the switch under the asphalt, no matter what your speed. There's lots of cameras that will just go off continuously depending on the trigger since a human will be double-checking the pictures.

It's possible. The cameras go off when cars trigger them under certain conditions (like certain speeds, or a trigger under the asphalt that reads the car's weight passing). My sister got one in the mail for turning on red at an intersection where it wasn't allowed and they tacked on a ticket for no seatbelt. The camera just takes a shit ton of amazingly clear pictures all day, humans look at them and send out tickets for spotted violations. You could spot the color of my sister's eyes in this picture they sent, there was no way of claiming it wasn't her.

To be fair, "sexual assault survivors" as a group doesn't mean everyone the label applies to reacts the same. I'm glad the joke doesn't upset her, but there a lot of other survivors it would upset. This logic is like one person who's been shot and recovered okay rolling their eyes because another person who got shot gets upset when somebody jokes about shooting them again.

When People Don't Pay Attention To The Movie 6 comments

I always use my phone during movies (except ones at the theater, but I rarely go there). I actually hate watching TV and movies, I only do it because people I know really want to watch something. I'd probably be bored to literal tears if I didn't have something else to keep me occupied alongside it when I'm stuck in front of a non-interactive screen.

I think this comic was meant more to highlight the large number of people who do this with everything bad that happens but don't lift a finger to change anything. For the Haiti earthquake, for example, and all the people who loudly lamented but then balked at the bery idea of donating a few dollars. It doesn't really work with things like bombings.

And I think this dude died in 1916 or 1917. So this is basically the early 1900s equivalent of "YOU DAMN MILLENNIALS WITH YOUR V-NECK SHIRTS AND YOUR WEIRD ABILITY TO SHOW YOU HAVE EMOTIONS. *old man fist shake*"

ISIS claimed the attack, but did so using incorrect descriptions of what happened. It's something they seem to do. Claiming attacks they didn't do gives a false view of them as all-reaching and bolsters their reputation even as they lose ground. It's a tactic.
