Well it's possible that he hadn't heard about it yet at that point so commenting without any knowledge of the attack could cause a misunderstanding. (For the record I didn't hear about it until this morning)
There's no shame in admitting you don't know everything. As long as you make it a point to find out the information you lack and follow up as soon as you are able. BS is easily disproven and sticking to the wrong facts will most often cause more problems than searching for right facts. Even "experts" and professionals aren't always on the ball, and the more complex an issue is the more there is to be sure about before you begin making wild assumptions.
It's suppose to be ironic because our wonderful president retweeted an unsubstantiated Drudge Report article about the London incident right when it occurred ;)
