Sadly I know a few “Lauren’s.” They own books they’ve never read because they use books as a decoration. They want the “look” of a bookshelf and without books they don’t like the way the shelf looks. In short they buy a shelf they like and then buy books to decorate it, as opposed to buying books they like and then a shelf to put it on. A couple “Lauren’s” I know at least read the books once. Then they display them as trophy’s. They have no intent to ever read them again, and no particular attachment to them, but by George they want anyone that comes over to know they read those books. Of course these Lauren’s do read other books, but they either lack the prestige or aesthetics to be displayed for company.
I once went to someone's house to help with a school project, tried to pull out an encyclopedia out of a set and found that there was no set, just a large block of styrofoam with fake bindings. We ended up just using wikipedia.
It may seem so. Sadly they did not see fit to give reason why. Perhaps they misunderstood and assumed you specifically meant books with disregard to other modern media that is just as valid a form of information. Perhaps they do “books on tape” or similar audio learning, perhaps they are only semi literate, and mostly come here for pictures with simple captions, and your words moved them to anger but they lacked the vocabulary or spelling to express themselves. We can only guess. I’m not sure what legitimate gripe a person would have with the statement- but it seems a little sad to downvote it without any reason.
I have an app on my phone for my local libray. We have three libraries in this town, and I can read the books from all of them right on my phone it's beautiful. I don't like the audio books, I just like reading. I love that I have access to my library at the click of my finger tip and without leaving my house.
