Oneway mirrors work by just taking a piece of shiny glass and putting it in a window. Make one room bright and the other dark then boom! One way mirror. On the bright side, it'll reflect all the light that hits it making it a mirror. On the dim side, you'll be able to see through it like a normal window.
For real though, a way to check is to see if it is set into the wall and then to cup your hands around your eyes and attempt to see through to the other side
One way windows always have a distinct look to them.
