They hunt the full grown whales? Or the babies? In theory, blue whales don't seem particularly agile, so I imagine it wouldn't actually be that difficult for a group of killer whales or sharks to take a solitary one down if they put their minds to it. But doesn't seem worth the effort, and most predators base their prey on a risk-reward basis, depending how desperate they are. A baby blue whale would make a bit more sense
The way they do it is kinda cruel, they don't actually attack it. The pod of Killer Whales wait until either an adult or baby whale (whatever they're feeling) to surface for air and they all gather on top of it and push it down essentially preventing it from breathing so it drowns. Majority of what you say is true Xvar but we're also talking about creatures who kill and chuck seals around for the lolz, not even to eat them sometimes
Oh yeah, definitely- Killer Whales and dolphins are actually colossal dicks. I was just not sure if this was one of those times, or if they actually made an attempt at eating the whale meat. I guess blue whales also kind of forget how big they are, because they could literally pretty much swallow an Orca (maybe not, but they could certainly do some damage), but instead they just drown. I imagine fighting isn't a very strong instinct for them, they're such gentle giants. I saw a video awhile ago of one (not sure if it was a blue whale) swimming with a diver, and then suddenly turning on her and getting a bit "aggressive," pushing her around, rolling her over his nose, etc. She got pretty freaked out before she realized there was actually a shark nearby, and the whale was trying to push her up to the surface where it's safe-- something they've also been known to do with dolphins.
Aw that's beautiful, from videos/documentaries I've seen they rarely make any move against the Orcas. They try and swim away but aren't as fast or as agile as an Orca so can't do it. It's really sad, they're so beautiful and kind
wow this one sentence apparently makes a difference. like oh my god suddenly the Pacific pod is no longer endangered and the ocean pollution is gone. thank freaking god this one person decided to make a difference by commenting on a cute gif on the internet with two words. holy crap.
Well I wouldn't work for them if I didn't believe they take good care of their animals. And even at some of the smaller facilities I worked at before a lot of the animal rescues were assisted by SeaWorld. And going there as a kid was one of the things that inspired me to work with animals. I supported them long before and long after my employment:D
