Without proper healthcare, they might have died in childhood from a preventable illness, or ended up as a factory worker due to malnutrition, etc. You missed the point, instead turning America into some magical place where, upon arrival, emerge from a wizard-inspired coccoon to become full-fledged geniuses. Maybe you live in that nationalistic circle jerk, but the rest of us live on the planet Earth. You give people the chance to make something of themselves, and give some of them an extra boost when the need it, and you get good results.
