This is why I find it entertaining when kids who play a ton of video games say they are going to get into video game design. If you play a ton of video games you aren’t going to be qualified. That nerd who spends all his time doing boring math stuff? He’s going to be doing the designing. You’re going to be sliding your McDonald’s paycheck to him at the Steam sale.
So true. And what's really annoying is when other industries and even universities view the game development industry as if it's less useful or important than other mainstream industries. When we combine the interactivity of games with other professions, we can create extremely useful technology.
In fairness, I agree that too many people think simply enjoying video games is enough qualification to design and create them professionally, without truly understanding the many skills that go in to video game creation. That said- math is one important tool but not the only tool. A programmer is only one of the many who make modern games. Art, music, creativity, logistics planning, project management, QA, these are several roles directly involved in game creation that don’t require complex, or in some cases much skill at all in mathematics. Designers don’t even necessarily need to be versed in math, it certainly boosts a resume, but if you can translate ideas in a way that a programmer can create the formulas and tables to create it- the programmer only makes imagination work in a set of technical constraints. They aren’t always the creative vision behind the idea as much as the ones who figure out how to make it work.
@guest_ It wasn’t my intent to imply it was limited to just mathematics; that was just the example in the post. However, the same concept holds true for other skills as well. Top video game companies hire only top tier creative talent. The same assertation that sitting around playing video games instead of focusing on maximizing your talent will not land you in that fied is, I think, still valid.
Is that only a part of the full formula? Because if i remember correct the health, def and lvl of tge target-pokemon are also part of the capture chance. It is also part which ball you use. Or is that and other variabels hidden in a?
