One of the first times I played the sims, day 1 creating a new character I got a goal (idr what they're called) from the game to go hit a vending machine. So I did. The vending machine responded by bitch-slapping my character so hard she crumpled into a heap on the floor. Never got up again.
Never could shake the feeling it was premeditated.
Another time a minor fire started in my Sim's house.
My Sim had the daredevil trait (sims 3 again), and it SHOULD have been able to put the fire out just fine... except people kept running in from the street for no bloody reason. One right after the other, darting in and dancing around the fire-- screaming and setting each other on fire. Looked like some bizarre cult gathering in the bedroom, I swear. Anyway, I didn't want them to die, so I tried to put THEM out first, which they didn't really seem to appreciate (most of them set themselves on fire again, and several set MY Sim on fire). Even when I tried to put out the main fire, they got in the way and blocked the path to it.

The fire department eventually showed up, decided they couldnt be bothered for some reason, and left. They DID eventually come back again, though.
By the end of it 15 random sims had broken into the goddamn house for the sole purpose of screaming about how on fire it was, and 5 of them died.
In Sims 3 I once had a sim I made brand new spent hours on her. I placed her in a house I spent days making. I move her in and as I am getting reading through what job I want her to sign up for she sits next to the side of the the house and watch the clouds. She is only in the game a solid 10 minutes and blame-O hit by a metor. I just kept saying WHAT THE FUCK!!!
The impact even destroyed part of the house cause I a fire which because I had forgotten a smoke alarm I had no one to go call so up went my house. Hours and days of work gone in 10 minutes.
Pissed me so much off I didn't get back on for weeks.
I think in this scenario they were, in fact, out to get you haha. I haven't played sims that much but I Don't think I ever had a meteor. That sucks though that you lost your character. I was lucky with my vending machine Sim, I'd saved right before it all happened I did have an issue where a character went into the male toilets and just stayed there until they starved to death, and then everyone ELSE went in and stood around the corpse, generally being unhappy until THEY starved to death, too. Learned later this was a glitch but it pretty much screwed up the entire gameplay and forced me to restart much earlier.
I've only played the sims History series (somthing really close to Sims2) and my fave was "Death by flies" triggered by the Tombstone of L and D. I also loved to add NPCs to my family and free them right away, some of them would leave, some of them would die (hunger or fright when they saw ghosts). And -still with the cheat mode activated- when I didn't like my neighbour I would sell them for 0ยง or place them in a wall or a statue so they wouldn't be able to get away and I loved the statue stuff because it made me feel like a mafioso when I looked at their "cement shoes".
