Listen here Nate, if that even is your real name. Do I come into your house, spit in your face, and clog your toilets? No? Then why have you done that to me? I extended an olive branch to you, Mr TheGreat, and you took that branch and smacked me upside the head with it.
The folks behind industry didn’t take that from you. That’s a convenient scapegoat people use. Now- “pastoral” implies an idealized version of the lifestyle with the hardships and risks minimized and the tranquility and simplicity maximized. So, in that sense, industry would ironically be a persons best shot at a “pastoral life” since vast wealth would give a person the freedom to create and live this “westworld” fantasy.
If you’re just upset you can’t be a Shepard and live in the middle of nowhere- that doesn’t even take much money. Afghanistan, Lesotho, there are places all over the world where one can find land and affordable livestock to set up such a life, even if their native country is prohibitive. The largest factors in blocking your “pastoral life” are simply population (relates to industry- but not caused by industry) and yourself- your desire for a specific location or the fact you don’t actually WANT a pastoral lifestyle because you’d have to give up much of your modern conveniences.
