It also has white fringe. It in my mind it has nothing to do with racism or slavery, but the fact that the government of South Carolina still flies a flag that is a historically accurate symbol of a rebellion against the USA. That's why it should be taken down.

I have never known anyone to fly a square one, one with the "Stars and Bars" in the canton with a white field, or a Bonnie Blue. Those are historically accurate. The rectangular one we know today is a fairly recent creation that had nothing to do with the Confederate States of America. If we are going to consider it a symbol of the South's Civil War history, then we have to attach rebellion from the United States of America with that.
And the riots over the deaths of Treyvon Martin and Mike Brown have absolutely nothing to do with the flag. I never said they were warranted or justifiable. Racism goes both ways, and saying that flying a Confederate flag is wrong in no way justifies racism in the other direction.

I'm just saying that a large group of people waving Confederate flags in the streets of any city in this country is dangerous and should probably be at least monitored by law enforcement.
I also think that that flag stands for much more than racism, as it is an emblem, accurate or not, of a state that fought a war against the United States of America.
I am not saying that it should be outlawed. As long as it's on private property and not there to start a riot, it's protected by the 1st Amendment. Not saying I agree with what it stands for, but you do you.
I just think that people should be educated on what that flag means more than anything. The modern, rectangular flag was adapted from historically accurate versions solely to promote hatred. The historically accurate ones stand for an enemy of the United States.

One person, no. One hundred people, possibly. There's your right to assemble.

If you watch this enough times, you will see as many blocks as there are atoms in the universe. (Assuming the universe is actually finite)

But, if you are waving a flag to intentionally start a riot, you are threatening government and private property.

To be fair, no one is flying a Bonnie Blue to "show their southern pride".

I'm talking about the "confederate" flag that is rectangular instead of square and features just the canton of the real flags used by the government of the Confederate States of America. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough.

You forfeit freedom of speech when you incite a riot. There are plenty of cases in which the Confederate flag has done just that.

People who fly Confederate flags usually don't realize that it represents a state that rebelled and fought a war against the USA. So I usually see people who fly one as ignorant as opposed to racist.

People should realize that minimum wage jobs are not meant for supporting a family or even one person, they are meant for teenagers to get experience in the workforce.

We already live in a democracy. I don't think there are too many Iraqi citizens mourning the death of Saddam Hussein.
