Promotion is not a problem, but the absolute lack of choice makes me heavily consider blocking all updates and staying on a less tainted version of windows

Well. What if you're trying to install a user made mod. You trust the file and want to tell Windows to do the same. Please direct me as to how you will tell defender that you trust it.
