I missed one school sports event, and an entire physical fight broke out between our school and the rival school on the court, including parents! They even threw some people off the bleachers.

What they mean is that you need to slow down and leave more room between you and the car in front of you, that way you don't NEED to brake so often. You may be following too closely if you have to hit the brakes all the time.
It would make it difficult for the driver behind as well, if you are braking all the time. That is true!

A friend of mine buys dairy free candy and switches it for his daughter, who has an allergy. She then passes out her dairy containing candy. Everybody wins!

The problem with education nowadays 10 comments

Well, it's going beyond the typical social skills though. It's not just learning how to work with others, etc. The problem is, we are expected to explicitly teach it, but aren't given the time. Kids can learn these things by interacting and playing, but in America, recess and other play opportunities are being taken away for more instructional minutes. Unstructured play is so important and our students are getting less and less. They aren't doing it at home either, and instead are inside playing video games. So that's all I'm saying. We, as teachers, are expected to work it into lesson plans, when in reality, it should be practiced at home and during unstructured play just as much, if not more. It shouldn't be solely our responsibility. :)

This is what my eyes are, as well as my dad and my son. I just never knew it had a name. We all 3 have central heterochromia. Green with brown ring. Sweet.

Exactly! Thank you. Teachers cannot make up for a lack of parenting. Parents are responsible for preparing you to live your life, not the school system. We provide an education based on academics. Unfortunately, a lot of times, we end up providing education in social skills too from lack of parenting.

Lebfturtle, I do agree that this happens way too often. However, that is not the case in every classroom. In my school I would say that it is a rarity. We work hard to individualize the instruction and meet everyone's very different needs. Definitely a very hard job.

True, but that's my point. The world wants you to assume gender roles. That's how people are taught to think. Pink=girl.

The actual post doesn't mention who is who. It could be a woman arguing, or a man. Only the poster mentions it being a woman. It's kind of interesting how everyone still interprets that the woman is the one making it difficult.

Teachers have way too much pressure on them. Make one slip up and it's the end of the world. It's sad and very stressful.

He absolutely does. However, she has to teach to first grade standards. As horrible as it is, she could get dinged for silly things like this during evaluation because writing standards have to be implemented.

In first grade, there are standards we have to teach to. We are expected to teach specific handwriting skills to our students. This teacher isn't dumbing it down. S/he is simply following the standards mandated by the area s/he is in. The same holds true for first graders using algorithms to solve math equations. It's great if they can do it that way, but if they don't learn why the algorithm works through strategies and modeling, they will have gaps when they get into the upper grades.

Squelch is being hated on for being rude about others being gay. Not because he's not gay, or doesn't agree with people who are gay. He is calling it shameful, which is just plain rude.

Thank you guest! That is the point I was going to make. This is how I feel as an American. I'm certainly not obese, lazy, or even overweight. I know there are lots of people that are in America, but not every American. ☺️

The truth of most teachers 9 comments

Where are teachers getting this stuff you speak of? Telecommuting and company vehicle? No. 7 hours a day? No. There are meetings upon meetings, many of which we have to have during our planning time. Which means we end up planning on our weekends, nights, and vacations. On top of professional development (required to stay certified) we must attend countless IEP, parent meetings, district meetings, and various others. Ahh unless you are a teacher, it's hard to understand the full responsibility of the teacher. I guess it isn't your fault that you don't truly know. At least all of what I've said is true where I'm at.

We are grumpy because we are treated poorly, and grown adults don't even have respect for teachers. However, I DO agree that teachers should respect students, as students are expected to treat teachers.
