We had a big stocky black cat named Rufus when I was a kid (between 3-9ish), he was a former street cat that had been used in a lab, then my mom adopted him. He immediately became my guardian. Any time Mom went to discipline me, whether a spanking or yelling, he would get between us and yowl at her, despite being extremely affectionate with her any other time. He also got into fights with dogs that came into our yard barking and chasing me a few times.
