I imagine that it'll be like eating meat. A majority of people would do it without a second thought to what they're doing and what goes into it, but then there will be that slim group that says it's wrong. I'm not putting down vegetarians or anyone else, by the way. This was just the first metaphor I thought of

You might look at the Mayans and ancient Greeks and Romans. I'm thinking especially of Rome with the coliseum... The others and some other ancient cultures practiced human sacrifice to the gods and/or had a general disregard for the value of human life. The Greeks used to leave their unwanted babies outside their town walls to die. You could probably find some interesting things there. TL;DR the collective conscience of the society wouldn't recognize it as wrong.

People would be carrying weapons everywhere, regard for life would be so insignificant that other problems such as poverty would be ignored, it would be a common sight to see dead bodies.

I figured it might seem like the Hunger Games (I have read the series five times, and it is my favorite, so it is an inspiration) but the way I'm making it is a little different. Thank you! :)
