Yeah, mostly if the story is written in 1st person narrative perspective but yeah. I looked this up awhile ago and I think it's mostly due to our mirroring behaviours as people, with our empathy and all that, your brain finds it easier to understand a person if you imagine yourself in their place and our mirror neurones tend to copy emotions and actions to understand and sometimes to replicate.

sorry that was worded horribly haha

I understood it fine.
Interesting. So because we can empathize, we can "become" book characters.
I like it.

Sort of, empathy develops via observation throughout childhood. People like psychopaths and serial killer don't actually have the section of the brain that controls empathy so they can't feel it or care when others are in pain or showing various emotions. When reading a book your brain does a similar thing to understand the character, not saying empathy is the only reason we do this, it's just a factor. We 'become' or connect to these characters because of our ability to feel what they feel through mirroring and other things but you get the gist.

Oh my goodness. Thank you.
I was writing out a thing for no reason, and described myself as someone who has lived longer than I've been alive, it was alot longer and better written (i think) and I thought about WHY cam I do this with characters in books? Thank you.
I can put the full writing if y'all want to read it

I usually have dreams where I am either the character myself or am standing next to them. They mostly ignore me.
Does anyone else get mad when people twist characters in fanfictions and get them wrong?
parisqeen · 6 years ago
No problem bud
@creativedragonbaby oh yeah all the time, it annoys me. Especially if it's one of those highschool au's where they're getting bullied and stuff and that character is SO not someone who would let bullying happen and be a whimp

Or they make a rough tough character into a love interest.
No... just... no.
That character hates everyone and everything.
parisqeen · 6 years ago
Oh like the 'they hate each other but they also fuck each other' sort of trope
timebender25 · 6 years ago
I get that.
It's a pain, actually. Because it likes to stick around long after I've stopped reading.

It really can be.

HOLY SHIT. I AM NOT ALONE!
sir_spiderman · 6 years ago
No, you're not. We have you surrounded. Every day, every single moment we have been with you. Watching you, judging you. We saw you sniff your fingers after scratching the inside of your ass. We saw that and so much more. You are NEVER alone. We are the silent watchers, the creeps in the closet, and the last drop of water coming out of the faucet. We are everywhere.

someone is desperate
sir_spiderman · 6 years ago
For quite a bit of things, but what in particular are you talking about?
adorkable · 6 years ago
Most likely attention
sir_spiderman · 6 years ago
Kinda, but not here. Nobody here can offer me actual attention. I just enjoy talking.
rydler · 6 years ago
you do alot of it
sir_spiderman · 6 years ago
Only here. Here I don't have to hold back. I'm usually a pretty quiet person - mostly because I can hardly share my opinions with the children around me.

You did mention that before. I like hearing your thoughts and opinions though
