We should delete funsubstance to fix the problem

@idkanymore
Serval posts have contained strong adult humor/ sexual content. For a very brief time there were users who posted porn to the site. While the user posts have been deleted, apologies made, people left the site, the far more widespread bot posts are all still up. And I'm sure some people might consider "it's not like its porn, most of the posts aren't even explicit". But it is a big deal, because bots are posting these things without the NSFW filter. Sooner or later that fact is going to get someone in trouble, potentially the whole site. Not to mention the fact that bots don't have the ability to use human judgement about what is or isn't acceptable to post. Luckily bots are stealing posts from other sites, so they have passed through a layer of human judgement, but what's acceptable to post is not the same on every site. Also, I have no idea if a bot will steal a fairly new post, which could potentially lead to posts that would be removed from other sites...

... ending up here. Where we have no one removing posts. Posts have been reported. Nothing is done. The only posts that disappear are post that the user deletes themselves. And bots never delete their work.
Ideally, human moderation is needed. Baring that, it would be great if a bot post would be deleted if half a dozen users reported it. Or if it got a certain number of dislikes (like 50 dislikes maybe, idk how many real users we have, I would want this to be a large number but not an unreachable one)
Just some way that the cold unfeeling bots posts could be moderated by humans would be awesome.

I agree

I don't know about most of them, but I did recognise a user turned bot a while ago (it was @pubichair )

I know this thread is probably dead, but I've seen a bizarre increase in super racist guest posts. Not sure what to do about that

Yes I have too! And vulgar posts not marked NSFW. I'm not saying we can't have humorous vulgar content, but it was nice when I could trust our members to use their human discretion to filter things and not worry about scrolling thru in front of my kid
idkanymore · 5 years ago
You’re right. A lot of guest posts have recently become more and more racist and NSFW while not being marked. It’s becoming poisonous.
celticrose · 5 years ago
I'm noticing most if not all of those super vulgar/nsfw posts that aren't hidden are bots. Which is part of what people have had issues 3

This site is a trainwreck of epic proportions.

Hey, they actually banned someone. That had to be a good sign. SOMEONE is actually monitoring something, somewhere. Of course it required said user to be an extreme racist troll and they still didn't delete their comments, but hey, I will take what little we can get.
hyperion · 5 years ago
Who'd they ban
celticrose · 5 years ago
And since my previous comment they have deleted all their comments. So definite good sign
idkanymore · 5 years ago
Progress! So SOMEONE's monitoring things, whether they've been here the whole time or not, so that's good!
celticrose · 5 years ago
There has actually been a few they banned, another is @xmas_nignog, another obvious troll
thekaylapup · 5 years ago
I'm glad there is some moderation at least.
Makes it almost seem worthwhile to report the problems when you see them.

@celticrose Super late response. I actually reported that person for racist comments. My hope is that other people did, too, and that those flags are still being responded to whether by automated response or otherwise. Call me a city-dwelling, kumbayah singing libtard but there shouldn’t be a place or a space for that sort of thing here, IMHO. I’d like to keep believing that if we continue to collectively call out that sort of thing when it happens then maybe someone (or something) will actually take action to fix it.

@celticrose Having given it 5 minutes more thought, I don’t think we have to roll over and just bemoan our woeful fate with the way things have gone on FS. I don’t know how we can take control of this situation, either. But I do know from life that collective, coordinated action can yield powerful results. Unfortunately, I’ve never seen a situation where the tech behind a site is so ‘take it the way it is or leave it’ so I’m at a loss for what to say is a solution. I don’t want to curl up and say ‘well, I guess this is the way things are nowadays.’ Maybe some of the smarter FunSubsters can suggest the best way to handle this whole situation?
