Trending takes into account the number of likes and comments a post has gotten and the time since posting. So a post that generates a lot of discussion can get on with fewer likes, and so can a post that gets a lot of likes in a very short amount of time. Since the formula considers these different factors, there's not an exact number of likes or comments that guarantees a spot.

Typically, with minimal comments, it’s about 500 likes that gets you there
