I mean how often do you intend on being mounted? And it being a main part of your character you can have a good relationship with your mount and have fun with it but you'd then also have to take care of it pay fees etc, its a personal preference but if you need a tank go Battle master.

We have a Vedalken Cleric, a Dragonborn Paladin, a Human Rogue, a Human Druid, an Aarakocra Sorcerer, and me, the Sahuagin Fighter.

I have no idea what half of those are but sounds like a good mix, you mentioned needing a tank but you have a dragon born paladin? Dont they fill that role easy enough

He's more focused on keeping the party alive while I'm focused on dealing damage. Different kinds of tanks for different kinds of problems.

Fair enough, a tank can just have medium armour with a shield and you're already at 17 ac which wastes plenty hits so that works without sacrificing damage and fucky cavalier shenanigans
