Neon Genesis Evangelion. Action, psychological thriller, giant robots and monsters. One of the most highly acclaimed and controversial animes ever. I think its very good, and it truely has a deeper subplot and lots of things to think about after watching. However if you don't like gore/shocking stuff I would stay away.
