Okay, I'm working on a murder-mystery-type novel. My main character is a guy who's nickname is Digit, because he lost a finger in an accident when he was much younger. I can't decide which finger he should be missing or how it happened. Any suggestions?

Why one finger tho?

I'd like it to be something people wouldn't notice right at first maybe, so not like he's missing three or something.

He could've been bitten by a dog when he was a young boy. He could've been poking a finger through a cage and then BAM dog bite.

That's actually an excellent idea and would open something up for more character development at a later point in the story! Can I use that?
