I was born and raised in a town with 1 stoplight and I was friends with all 40 of my classmates in elementary and high school. Going to a big city for college is terrible. I hate the city and the noise. I miss my hometown where the night was quiet and you could actually see the stars. There is nothing like the countryside.

Well I cant say I've lived in a city center. But i do know my city. And while raising a kid in the city isn't bad if given the choice i would move to a suburb. Thats just my opinion.

My husband doesn't want our son to grow up in a two bedroom flat, which I understand. However, we also live in a fairly clean and safe city that I wouldn't mind raising a child in. I'm just not sure if I can sleep without the sound of traffic since I've been hearing it my entire life. Though, you both raise some good points, and I can see why the countryside is appealing.

Out of curiousity what city do you live in. My experience has been with Houston TX and the surrounding suburbs (where i grew up). I now live in a small college town (small is still pretty big 30,000 people). And I really like it out here

I'm currently in Stockholm, grew up in London. Two very different cities, but I love them both. Can I ask how you adjusted when going from a larger city area to a smaller town?

Well i went to college so it wasnt hard. And my aunt lives not to far from here (in an even more back woods area on a lake). So i allready knew the area. But it took some getting used too. Like some cons are they dont have my bank in this city only ATMs so if i have an issue i have to drive 40 miles to the closest location. But i love how everyone is kind and smiles and says hi. Then again that may just because i live in the south. The town itself is one of the older ones in Texas and alot of history and old buildings.

I used to live in a city, but I move to a smaller town (40,000 people) when I was 7. I still go to different cities to visit a few times a year, but from my experience, smaller towns have their pros and cons. For one, you'll hardly ever be in traffic again. It's not as noisy, and (at least where I live) the roads are much nicer. You also save a lot of money on transportation. From my house, my school is a four minute drive, and Walmart is 2 minutes away. Basically, I can get anywhere in 10-12 minutes or less. However, there's definitely not as much entertainment locally. But personally, I like it better here.

Yeah thats the downside not much to do. Our options are limited to bars, clubs, and outdoorsy stuff which i like anyway

Thanks guys! I'm feeling a bit better about moving, but I'll miss how lively the city is.
