I think I'd enjoy having a dog but I'd also hate it because it's like having an overenergized four year old. They're really charming for the first few minutes and maybe an hour but then it just gets tiring.

If you don't like the idea of caring for a child, a dog isn't too far off from that. Cat's are pretty independent, and don't have to be constantly monitored to correct behaviors, except maybe peeing in your shoes.
