My cat had to be put down yesterday, and I feel like I'm being unreasonably upset, but then I feel guilty, like I'm saying that she didn't matter enough to be this upset. Anyway, I just was curious what others think about it.

I was 25 when my 19 year old cat died. I cried for hours and called into work the next day.

I really wanted to do nothing today, especially since I was crying again five minutes after waking up. But I couldn't skip class and I had a job interview

It wasn't a person, but it was still a life and you no doubt loved it a lot. It's okay to be sad and cry, just don't let it get in the way of getting on with your life.

I once had to collect my dead cat off the road behind my house, and she was still warm so it had just happened, I didn't cry until I got to my bed that night

My nephew's dog got mauled by a coyote. It was late. We live out in the country and emergency animal assistance is pretty much nonexistent. He didn't die that night, but his lung was punctured and so he had to suffer for a night before we got him to a vet. They said they couldn't have done anything. Mourned for him for two days and couldn't focus on school for a month. My nephew cried himself to sleep for a few weeks. We loved that little fucker.
