Looking for Alaska is pretty damn good and has a sad twist. I'd also recommend pretty much any other book by John Green though

The Young Elites novels are pretty sad and really good in my opinion. Great plot twists in the second book and lots of sadness throughout

Claws by Will Weaver. I read this book maybe 3-4 years ago. I remembered the story vividly but couldn't find the title up until a few months ago. I'm so happy I found it and I think it's exactly what your looking for. Very sad, somewhat romantic. Look it up (:
