That's really sad. He should really be supporting you. I say go for your DJing hobby and keep at debate (which gives great skills). Do it for yourself because until you have children he only person's happiness you're responsible for is your own. Its not right for him to withhold his pride and love from you. I sympathize with you. My mom was a lot like that. I was always more of an accessory to her life than an actual person to her. It completely ruined our relationship and I don't even talk to her anymore.
As for sacrifice I still don't think you OWE your parents anything. I mean its not like you chose to be born. That being said I 'sacrifice' my interests for my dad and he 'sacrifices' his interests for me. That's how relationships work, you don't HAVE to do things for others, but you can if you want to.

I didn't know that. But its still wrong and insanely creep for a woman who is probably in her 30s to do something like that to someone just coming out of childhood. Would you be okay with this if it was a man sleeping with his 16 year old step daughter for possibly eleven years?

Thanks for the comments guys and gals, its great to see other's opinions.
Personally I think its both funny and sad. Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate abundance with the people who are the most important to us. To be reminded that even in a material culture our relationships are the most important 'things' we have. They're what make it all worth it.
Then right after giving thanks we rush out and trample each other for killer deals. Its a weird juxtaposition. Black Friday is the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. People go out and freeze at crazy hours. But why? For cheap TVs?
Idk, I'm starting to think that its not all about cool stuff. I think a lot of it is people trying to fill up the Christmas tree. The economy is in the toilet but we all still need to get those presents. We're still expected to have a big Christmas. Is that what those fights are about? Can't disappoint the kids. Gotta keep up with the Joneses. Maybe the insanity is partly the economy's fault.
