It’s not what you’re thinking. Basically audio (usually for meme purposes) with the gain/bass boost turned up so high, it distorts and all you can hear is the bass. It’s super fucking loud, hence, “earrape”.

The YouTube thing reminds me of the time my (now ex) girlfriend was over at my house, laughing at some earrape videos with me on her phone. Suddenly, the screen goes dark and says, “Connecting...” and I freak out for a second, confused. After a dread-filled pause, said earrape pops up on my TV screen, playing at full volume. The furniture actually shook, it was so fucking loud.
To this day, I’ve not a clue in hell what happened. We don’t have Apple TV, or any sort of connection to YouTube through the TV.
