It is also smart economically; women buy extremely small amounts of fabric for high prices, thus making money off of what is essentially a tiny scrap of 'clothing'

Actually the first thing about clothing designers is true. Women's clothing us designed so that men get to see more of a woman's body. Essentially women are tricked into objectifying themselves because they are taught that showing skin makes them 'beautiful' while in actuality all they are doing is being eye candy for men.
