My mum eats a ton of gluten-free stuff.
No, she's not allegic to gluten. Sounds stupid, right? She's just being a stuck-up food snob, right?
WRONG.
She IS deathly allergic to NICKEL, which (as it turns out) is in just about everything that gluten is, such as wheat, oats, and corn, and all derivatives and byproducts thereof... You get the picture. She touches nickel? Mild to moderate anaphylaxis. She ingests it? Severe anaphylactic shock, including rashes, swelling, and super-severe pain... Before the gluten-free 'craze' came along, she could eat maybe a grand total of about 20 different foods... Now, with the g-free stuff, she's up to about 42 foods, which doesn't sound like much, but is still more than twice as many as before! So please guys, don't go hating on gluten-free stuff, or automatically labelling people as snobby dumbasses if they eat that way but aren't allergic to gluten. You probably don't know the half of it.
