Actually, while I do support and encourage adopting shelter dogs it is very important to make sure you have a steady income that can support your own needs (food, drink, shelter, internet, netflix), your books and stuff for college AND your dogs stuff (food, leash,...). Furthermore you should also be able and willing to take the time to care for your adorable furry friend (walks 'n stuff) which most college students lack. If you couldn't check those boxes then you might want to leave getting a dog to a future-you. Dogs are a huge responsibility and you wouldn't want to force your best four-legged family member into another shelter again. If you shouldn't get a dog, just come up with another excuse (Lame parents for those who live at home, Other arrangements, Feeling sick, Really hate that one guy there and can't stand seeing him).
