We evolved to crave things which drove our ancestors to search for food, shelter, sex and various necessities. As the world developed, people became more wealthy, and at least for those with an internet connection and a compatible device, all their basic needs have been fulfilled. Yet the instinct to crave remains, conflicting with the reality that there is nothing that needs to be craved for survival, resulting in the sense that there is a "hole that cannot be filled".
