From the people who know the answer I only read insults, so i'll try to answer properly, it's not bad not knowing something, it's only bad not wanting to broaden one's horizon. Especially since chopsticks are completely foreign to most westerners:).
- In china it is said that the use of chopsticks trains one's brain, so children are taught to pick up small objects with them
-chinese cuisine uses a lot of boiling hot water and fat, chopsticks are perfect for reaching into pots full of it
-Confucius (who has had an incredible impact on all aspects of asian culture) was a vegetarian, he believed that the use of sharp utensils at the table would remind eaters of the slaughterhouse. He also thought that knives’ sharp points evoked violence and warfare, killing the happy, contended mood that should reign during meals.
- And most importantly, as already said, asian rice is often sticks together, so there's no problem with picking it up
