It bothers me in principal, but in reality things are greasy. Tax breaks, public image, or even from boredom or to travel/meet people, many volunteer or donate money for less than selfless reasons. Some corporations donate more money or work hours to charity in a year than most people can in a lifetime. Compared to someone with only selfless intent who sits on the couch or does less, someone who gives out of selfishness may not be right in principal but they are making a difference. Few people bother to see donations through. From wounded warriors and others who "pocket" the money, to live aid or overseas home building, or most ewaste recycling (making things worse), or clogging up aid with material donations bs cash, to using charity to get rid of their junk. So even those with good meaning who act often would help more by doing nothing. In the end it may be wrong in principal and it may annoy me, but to those truly in need motives are less critical than relief.
