They actually broght snuffalafuffagus into the "real" world because; no one believed big bird saw him and the producers were concerned that if a kid tells someone about something they know is true, and no one believes them (e.g. sexual abuse), the kid might think they were wrong just like big bird was shown to be. By making big bird's best friend "real", sesame street wants to make it clear that if something is happening that no one else can see, tell some one and some one else will one day see it too.
