He could have pierced his ear himself. And as a parent who is mostly incharge of discipline I can say that a kid will indeed just stand there and take punishment. Child abuse seems a strong term but it's exactly what shaming is. Shaming a kid with a bad haircut (for whatever reason) is an "attack" on the child rather than their behavior. And this kids parent posted it to social media making it public for everyone to see which is no doubt very embarrassing.
This is a punishment that isn't just going to stay at home. This kid has to go to school and we all know kids can be vicious. As a parent I feel it's wrong for parents to shame their kids like this. If the kid wasn't crying it might be a little funny but he's obviously very upset and his parents aren't being sensitive to that. Children respect those who respect them. Shaming, while maybe effective, is disrespectful and may cause the child to resent you.
