Someone had to say it 14 comments

There has to be a give and take. These immigrants have the potential to add untold value to our country. This is a country born from immigrants because immigrants have always had to fight for what they needed. They're the ones who have been driven out by their country. They've faced violence and been made kinder for it. They've faced racism/religious intolerance and been made more empathetic for it. They've faced cowardice and hatred and been made braver for it.
Their voices will be heard as they have always been heard. Because this is a "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" country and immigrants live this as much as anyone else.
America at its core, the values it's always espoused, cannot be lost but their voices are a part of the narrative of America's future. We can't pretend like they're not here. So we can either take an active role in shifting America to better fit everyone or we can be pulled, whining, into the future by Americans braver than us.
Oxford comma 9 comments

My problem is that commas have consistently been used to indicate pauses. And it's the pauses that help people understand what's trying to be communicated.
With commas its read as:
Ihadeggs toast andorangejuice.
Without its read as:
Ihadeggs toastandorangejuice.
While the intended meaning can be derived easily enough in most cases, it's still just a little bit harder for your brain to work out what's going on. Communication is already difficult. As the saying goes "The biggest problem with communication is the illusion that its taken place" -Shaw. So why not just slip in the Oxford comma and make it a bit easier. A print newspaper is understandable as ink and space are at a premium but this isn't the case when it comes to anything online.
