Lucky you. I Worked at Victoria's Secret briefly. They'd force their employees to call in on days they weren't scheduled to work, to find out if the company needed them to come into work that day.
Agree with diyrogue mostly though. I don't mind if a company needs to call to see if I can cover a shift (how else are they supposed to get anyone in when someone calls in drunk or dead at the last minute?), or ask the occasional question, but making employees take work home, or calling them all the time is just no. Work to live, not live to work.

I remember reading awhile ago that they did studies on dead flamingos and discovered it's actually far easier for them to balance the weight of their bodies on one leg, as opposed to two. Why this is so, I'm not sure, (I know humans are constantly adjusting their own weight distribution between our legs when we are upright, so perhaps the way their legs are designed helps lessen the need for this or something) but it's interesting if it's true

When I ask someone where they're from, it's not meant to imply I don't believe or care if they were born in this country based on the color their skin. It's because I'm often times too lazy to say:
"Hello, fellow human! At some point in your lineage it appears a relation of yours may have been born in a location not enclosed within this country's borders! If you are white, there's a good chance it's europe.
Otherwise, it is likely you could almost be from any other part of the world. Perhaps, if it's not too much trouble, we could discuss this a little bit, because other cultures are interesting and, if your family still incorporates any of said culture into their current existence, it might be interesting to learn a bit about that, and, perhaps, even about YOU yourself. Or, perhaps, it would open a pathway about things such as do you still have family there? Are you, perchance, ever thinking about visiting that country? If not, where do you think you'd like to go instead?"

In regards to Russia @famousone I was referring to the investigation into whether Russia tampered with the polls, NOT Hilary Clinton. You guys seem to have a weird habit of bringing up people I never mentioned. Or maybe it's a fetish. Not sure. Either way, as far as I know, the entire thing is all up in the air. What I DO know is Putin at one time voiced support for Trump, and if that alone isn't enough to make people rethink supporting the man, they clearly don't know much about Putin. Tbh, it would be a bit of a relief to find out Russia HAD tampered, because then, at least, we wouldn't be stuck with the collective imagery of America taking a look at Trump and going "yep. This is it. This is the best we got. Put him up there." If that IS what actually happened, then congratulations, you're officially an episode of Black Mirror. You've elected a childish cartoon character to be your president.
Again, just to be clear, when I say Trump in this comment, I'm not talking about Obama.

@princessmonstertru by your Logic, I should assume that, since you defend trump, you're a racist redneck who thinks that Mexicans are everything wrong with any country to ever exist, and anyone who doesn't agree with you should be mocked, silenced, or fired-- and then blame YOU for that assumption. When I said "we all agreed," I was referring to the sane portion of the world (the ones who don't try clamber up their high horses everytime someone tells a joke), so I can see where you got confused/defensive/felt the need to try and "school" me.
I, once again, expressed no views on Obama. Thinking Trump a failure as a human being, let alone as president, doesn't mean I automatically support Obama-- or don't. It's called connect the dots, not draw them wherever you feel like just so you can validate defending your opinion without relevant prompting. O.o
If you believe Trump's presidency is anything but a complete disaster, then you've condemned your argument far worse than I ever could

How is this different than the people who pay for seats for their giant stuffed animals or dogs or w/e else on airplanes? He paid for the seats, he's entitled to use them how he sees fit, and nobody has to like it. If he goes to a movie theatre and pays for seven seats and places a piece of popcorn on each of them, that's his right.
If someone disabled or elderly etc asked to sit and he didn't move the crabs, Or they were in inhumane conditions, or attempting to leave the seats, then I could see this being a problem. The woman should be smacked off her seat until she's at least in half the Same condition as the crabs. Treating something with such cruelty because the person who put it in this situation offended your self-important brand of insanity should have a consequence. God damn.

If they wanted to compare that person to Disney's Pocahontas, why didn't they just use an actual pic of Disney's Pocahontas, as opposed to the shiny artist's rendition?
I mean, that pic is okay and all, but compared to the character they're speaking about, talking exclusively about proportioning, they've narrowed her face, widened her eyes by about 300%, shrunk her nose (at least it looks shrunk to me in comparison to what the nostrils on Disney's version implies), darkened her skin, even added some additional poof to the lips... if they were going for a realistic version of the character, they could have achieved it without blowing out her proportions so much. It looks like a hybrid between Pocahontas and a bratz doll almost, and, really, ANY person can look like anyone if you follow this standard.

also, we tend to become more immune to blood and such when we are exposed to it more. We're currently decently sheltered from things like that in our society because we have no reason to be exposed to it, but killing is something humans can easily adapt to. Heck, just talk to anyone on 4chan and you can see just how quickly people can go from "sick to my stomach, how is this happening?" To "wow, another dead body." Suffering isn't something most of us are ever okay with, but killing and suffering DON'T have to go hand in hand.
I'm not trying to say I have a problem with vegans-- you do you, and hopefully be happy. But don't try to Trick people into following your lifestyle using smoke and mirrors. If your lifestyle can't stand strong on its own, then none of these games will ever be enough to save it, and you'll just turn it into an organization like Peta, obnoxious at best, a joke at worst, and someone that no one truly takes seriously anymore

They also chose to conveniently ignore the fact that humans prepare their food using primarily their hands, and have for a decent amount of time. Meaning, we literally don't have the NEED to have extremely sharp/prominent canines to tear flesh, OR defend ourselves, because we've already done it with our hands. The person added "knife and fork" as a joke, but its actually insanely relevant. On top of which, there's creatures like geese who have "tomia," which are serated, and they use them partially for plant material. Not to mention Gorillas, which are primarily herbivores. And chimpanzees which, since they're trying to use evolution as an argument, become insanely relevant since they're so closely related to us, and are omnivorous.

The only barber that could handle such a Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbarenbart (Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarians’ Beard) was called Rhabarberbarbarabarbabarenbartbarbier (Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarians Beard Barber).
The Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbarenbartbarbier also liked to go to the Rhabarberbarbarabar. And in addition to eating Rhabarberbarbara’s delicious rhubarb cake, he liked to drink a beer, which he ceremoniously called Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbarenbartbarbierbier (Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarians Beard Barber Beer).
The Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbarenbartbarbierbier could only be purchased at a very specific bar.
And the person selling the Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbarenbartbarbierbier at the counter of the Rhabarberbarbarabarbabarenbartbarbierbierbar (Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarians Beard Barber Beer Bar) was named Bärbel.
And so the Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbaren, together with the Rhabarberbarbarabarbabarenbartbarbier and Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbarenbartbarbierbierbarbärbe(continued)

Translation (not done by me-- I found it on a website called language surfer, by a guy named Ron):
In a small village, there once lived a girl with the name Barbara.
And Barbara was known everywhere for her wonderful rhubarb cake.
Therefore she was also called Rhabarberbarbara (Rhubarb Barbara).
Rhabarberbarbara noticed quickly that she could make money with her cakes and opened a bar: The Rhabarberbarbarabar (Rhubarb Barbara Bar).
The Rhabarberbarbarabar went well and quickly had regular customers.
And the three most well-known of them, three Barbarians, came so often to the Rhabarberbarbarabar to eat Rhabarberbarbara’s delicious rhubarb cake that they were called the Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbaren (Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarians) for short.
The Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbaren had beautiful beards. And when the Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbaren wanted to maintain their Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbarenbärte (Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarians Beards), they went to the barber.

and the system they've used has worked well for them. Assess as threat, prey, or neutral, and act accordingly.
That being said, from what I remember of sharks and animal psychology in general, the most important thing is how you respond. No different than a dog baring it's fangs at you. I've seen instances of sharks coming close to humans in similar manners, getting closer each time, even attempting to take small nips eventually. If you permit the behaviour, it will escalate. This is part of why punching a shark in the nose is supposed to be helpful, since, aside from stunning the shark somewhat, it asserts you are willing and potentially able to defend yourself, and probably not worth the effort.
Dolphins employ this strategy, since they are faster than sharks, and have been observed ramming into their stomachs and gills, which can result in death for the shark. Anytime a predator attempts to go for prey, especially large prey, it's taking a decent size risk, too. (Cont again, hop

I feel like, if humans know that's a place sharks actively hunt, and they go in the water anyway, that's more or less the equivalent of covering yourself in zebra blood and taking a jaunt around the savannah. It just goes back to the whole "if you're in their hunting territory, behaving much like what they hunt, why are you surprised and blaming them for attacking you?"
Also, I don't think anyone claimed they were *harmless*-- just that sharks don't see people and go "looks like meat's back on the menu, boys!" They do what any animal would: assess as threat, prey, or neutral, and then react accordingly. Even in this gif, the shark seems to be aware the person is there, but not certain what exactly he/she IS, or what they're doing. It gets close and tests a boundary, but it made no actual attempt to attack. It could even be sizing the guy up to see if he's competition for food in the area. These are some of the oldest predators in the world, (cont, hopefully - limit might be reached)

Being white, and growing up around mostly other white people, I obviously have no idea, but I always thought that the wider variety of hair colors existing more commonly naturally among Caucasians would make it a little easier to tell them apart to other races? I mean, if every other girl hadn't dyed her hair blonde, that is. Maybe it's not a significant enough difference, but since I ALWAYS forget a face, regardless of race, hair color is usually one of the ways I try and narrow it down for myself a bit.
If anyone who has trouble telling white people apart has any insight on that, I'd be interested to hear.
still, at the end of the day, I guess we all tend to just make sweeping generalizations about people we encounter, only narrowing it down enough so we CAN identify people we encounter on a regular basis with minimal amounts of wasted energies

Pretty much this exactly. I'm not sure who this universal girl all these guys are hitting on is. The simple fact is that taking an interest in someone-- especially romantically-- is a Gamble. If you're not prepared to lose, you should probably walk away from the table right now.
Similarly, unless all men really DO expect any little remotely decent thing they do for a woman to result in sex, women should probably stop complaining so freely that they can't find any "nice" men. If there weren't any nice men, people would pretty much be afraid to leave their houses on a daily basis. If you cant find one, I'd guess you're looking in the wrong places.
Nice is a "nice" trait. But it's never the only thing anyone is looking for. If the people you're interested in aren't measuring up, or responding to what you're doing, chances are there's something beyond niceness that is missing, and one or both parties are overlooking it.

There have literally been highly successful female leaders/rulers, both of countries and other circumstances, and they have engaged in war. Similarly, most male leaders have, in all likelihood, had highly important decisions influenced by women in their lives. No one rules alone. Pretending war is a result of which gender is ruling is pretty much as ridiculous as pretending one gender is entirely incapable of leading. Oversimplifying the life, universe, and everything. Both arguments are invalid, and I feel like this post is taking away from far more relevant things like doggo's rolling down stairs.

"is you against abortion because you yourself were aborted?" 32 comments

Validate your own beliefs? :/ you don't know these women, or their stories. If your reasoning is religious, then drop your stones already.
I personally wouldn't ever want to have an abortion. It's horrifying and has lasting trauma. But I don't want to see kids raised in horrific conditions either. I don't want to see single parents abandoned by the lover that is equally responsible for the situation-- because being there financially doesn't really cut it. I don't want to see single mom's or fathers forced to work so many hours a day at terrible and degrading jobs they barely even see their kids. I don't want to see drug addicts raising kids that grow up to make the same kinds of decisions, or worse. Or overcrowded foster care, shuffled from house to house, never really finding family. I don't want to see a rape victim forced to be reminded of her assailant every time they look at their child-- because, say what you will, not everyone has the constitution to deal with that.
"is you against abortion because you yourself were aborted?" 32 comments
guest · 6 years ago
I'm not saying that all kids that go into foster care end up messed up, but its a very real possibility. The kid being raised by the grandparents has already asked if they're a bad person because of the actions of they're "mother" and "father" (also in drugs/jail/and a gang). I've also met people who weren't supposed to be able to get pregnant, and ran a very high mortality risk after it happened. Not to mention victims of rape.
Of course birth control Is always the best option, but if this were a perfect world where stupid or just plain terrible things didn't happen, we wouldn't have to have this discussion in the first place. You can preach about it being murder all you like, but if you're not willing to step up to the plate and raise every single one of these children yourself, and help deal with all the trauma that comes with it-- both for the child and the parent,s-- then why in all of hell do you think it's okay to stand in the way and force an entire lifetime just to
"is you against abortion because you yourself were aborted?" 32 comments

Tbh, I used to be anti-abortion, but then I met my cousin. She got pregnant, intentionally, and it wasn't getting her the attention she wanted. So she got an abortion. She was involved in drugs, domestic violence, attempted murder, and a slew of other things. She later got pregnant again. This time she kept it until she gave birth. At which point her parents, who were retired at this point and in no way wanted a baby, took it in, which was a good thing because not too long after she went to jail. She got out of jail around 2 years ago. She's been pregnant three times since then, although, again, the first one wasn't getting her the attention she wanted, so she had a "miscarriage." Whether you believe in abortion or not, there is no way in hell ANY child is better off being raised by someone like that, and foster care and such are not always an option at all, let alone a good option

I noticed it, too, though mind you only after my second viewing of the pic. And if you don't notice when a picture puts exclusively black people overtop of the word "slavery," you have probably not been paying attention to anything going on in terms of race relations, ever. Especially when said picture looks oddly outdated, and has an agenda to push. I imagine if you added a white prison guard to the pic you could start a full scale riot in the comments section
