His defense is strong. The lead investigator not only jeopardized evidence by letting officers into the crime scene without anti contamination dressing. In addition, the investigation unit leaked photographs of the door and prime evidence to media outlets for a profit.
His defense will at least include the incompetence of the investigators as well as his highly plausible confession that he suspected the noise in the toilet (with access to an external/ internal window) was an intruder.
With the high crime rate in the area, lack of security protocols in the gated community and his being a national figure in a potentially corrupt judicial system, the jury may not convict for murder nor a lesser charge.
It'll be an interesting outcome.

Even if Police discovered the dog, they would discard it in search for the human body.
