It really doesn't work like that because the ground has already been "messed with" if you will, and it won't be that hard to for them to find the body. Using the method you said, you are more than likely going to cause the ground to shift around causing a gap that would collide further down. Leading both the corpse of the dog to land exactly above the body. The soil has already been tampered with, and won't stick like it did the first time. I believe it has to do with soil erosion.
