Are fat incels volcels? 1 comments
guest · 5 years ago
ALL “incels” are making a choice because they prefer a world where women are available for sex, instead of free humans possibly available for interactions of differing types. They are garbage. Until they do better, they are an active threat to more than half the population (and a passive threat to the entire species) and should be shunned. Anyone in sympathy to them should be avoided by all other humans.

They’re nothing alike - one is responsible and tired, the other is whiny, lazy waste of oxygen who spends all his time wishing things were different and zero of his effort making it so. Guess which one blames the women around him for his life?

Everyone thinks they’re slightly smarter than regular. I think some people get into a situation where their group is exposed outside and everyone calls them stupid. So they say they were being *ironically stupid*. But, no, they just ARE stupid and desperately trying to cling to being smart.
Best way to avoid this? Pick the person you want to be or what you want, and do that. Then other people’s opinion is not important and you don’t have to contort your reality to still be the smartest person. Takes too much time. Just realize you’re not, because the smartest people are lonely for company, so that’s not you. We’re mostly all average. Accept other people are exactly like you and stop trying to find ways why you’re superior.

Okay, mad props. Seriously.
BUT the federal employees who worked will get paid, etc. The contractors are just sol and that’s a huge workforce who will get nothing. There’s a union trying to change that, but for now, it’s just the same as it’s been. There’s no accommodation, no help, just uncertainty and enforced unemployment when they’re trying to serve their country too.

Unfortunately, the Prez doesn’t negotiate in good faith and changes based on which room he’s in. Therefore, although it’s painful, insisting he get it together when only some are affected avoids future painful and larger hissy fits. He will always be willing to let others suffer; he has a documented history of always done so. People who know this and voted for him anyway are betting THEY won’t come onto the chopping block. But giving in because he’s unreasonably childish and obdurate doesn’t fix the central issue any more than it would with any three year old. If he could be trusted to have just this one thing, MAYBE. But he can’t. He’ll do anyone dirty, so he can’t be given slack when he says this is his one true live-or-die issue. It’s just tried and true method of being bratty to get more from the other person than they would offer. Since hechimself isn’t in pain, no one important is suffering.

Not the point, but: When derision has been or is dangerous, jokes are no longer funny.
It’s very simple. If a group has been targeted, it’s not clever to reference the things that were used to set them apart. If a group had had violence against them, referring to the violence in the past or present isn’t a joke. It’s just stupid.
Refusing to acknowledge someone’s pain because being stupid is more fun for you has never been a valid defense. ‘I was stupid/didn’t realize i could know better and I’m sorry; I don’t reference that anymore’ - valid! Can you Buh-leeve all this whining about someone making a joke?!?! - NOT valid. Acknowledging your mistakes means owning that it may reverb in the future and accepting the fallout. He’s doing that. You’re not. Grow up.

They Aren't Mutually Exclusive 8 comments

If you meant systemic failure (like schools, or prison, or criminal law, or systemic bribe-taking or caregiving matters), then okay, yes, we got issues. BUT most people unhappy like that are 100% aware that laws reflect the will of the people, past and present. They are not confused that the government somehow doesn’t reflect the goodness of citizens. Nope, that has never been the problem.
In all cases, the solution is to engage. The only people who I see consistently refusing are people who had their core ideas about how fair, just, or good this country is rocked or challenged by someone providing concrete examples to the contrary, and they DID NOT LIKE IT. They just want things to go back to sunshine and convenience. Little Lord Farkqards all over the place. “Some of you may die, but that’s a price I’m willing to pay.” I know this is a stupid rant but I’m viscerally opposed to people taking only the benefits of a representative government, solely when it works for them.

They are, though. Hating the government is passive. It’s a reasonable response to a monarchy or dictatorship, but not a republic. We have a representative form of government which means YOU have to paRTICIPATE. Washing your hands of this fuckery is a lie you tell yourself.
If the government is a problem you ‘hate’, either 1) you hate that it’s a mess or 2) hate that other people’s votes and opinions had the power to create laws you disagree with.
If it’s 1), yeah you do hate the country. Move to a country that doesn’t require any effort from its citizens to be successful. If it’s 2), you prolly spend a lot of time wishing you could help people different than you understand “real” reality and stop whining. So you hate the concept that things aren’t exactly what is convenient for you. In which case: you like the government locally but do hate most of the country. Stop being a whiny baby & DO THE WORK required to understand why other humans have reached alternate conclusions.

After all, no one is as clever as you are...and since you’re brick stupid, that does limit what thoughts anyone could ever have. Moron for writing and brain-dead moron for reposting it here.

Beside the point, but honestly - what’s with downing spouses on the internet? She (he?) “let [my] husband”. Such uncooperative, praiseless language. How difficult is it to say something more like: ‘my husband took on labeling the spices’. It’s just unnecessary to say you ‘let’ your partner be involved in home management.

Well, he has no military experience and cites no military folks, but sure King Trashheap Hyperbole definitely has valid and worthwhile opinions on lots of areas of expertise. Absolutely.
Everytime he opens his mouth, I just want to say, ‘Sit down. No, no. Have a seat. Nooo. Nope, sit down.’ He had the speech patterns of a small child. Impossible to listen to.

A desire to have a sense of outrage is direct proof that you aren’t the underdog you wish you were. If this were a thing (it’s not), it still wouldn’t affect you personally. Take your wish to have a kind and just world and find something actually righteous to put the energy toward.

The problem with politics 12 comments
guest · 5 years ago
People who study power and control (laws) focus on getting it.
People who spend their time fixing injustice want to write better laws.
People who study truth are also doing what they want with their time. It’s not outside scope for someone to love science and politics, but it’s not as clearly intertwined.
Fewer scientists thus run for office or advocate for science in politics. Since they aren’t there, politicians can easily make a decision that they aren’t needed. Yes, politicians should be less stupid and entitled. But in a republic (the way the U.S. chooses to do it anyway), it’s almost a job requirement to be that way. The politicians who DO meet with scientists and make good decisions don’t always prevail.

It’s such a great story, until it gets to Al Gore. Adds nothing and subtracts heavily from a wonderful lady’s story. She didn’t do it for the prize, and it doesn’t lessen my awe of her actions. Mentioning who did win it, though, is distracting. Is the story about her or not?
