No. Truly nice people don't suddenly become scary assholes because someone pushed them too far. People faking being nice or people simply being polite are the ones that can turn quickly. You want to see what someone is truly like? Push them a little. That's when the mask they put on falls away and who they truly are comes out.

That teacher is going to sue the pants off the district. If you have tenure, there are steps that need to be taken before a teacher can be fired. For infractions like this, a tenured teacher would be first placed on an Improvement Plan and her progress would be monitored for several weeks. If she demonstrated no growth she could be informed at the end of the year that her contract was not being renewed. Teachers rarely get fired mid-school year unless they commit an actionable offense, like sleeping with or physically assaulting a student. As bad as all this sounds, it just falls under poor teaching practices.
TL-DR: Firing a tenured teacher for this, without giving her a chance to improve her practices, is going to get the school district in trouble with their teacher's union and sued.
