It's even way more sadistic than that. They force-feed the person with lots of food and drink, partly to ensure they don't die of starvation/thirst, and partly so they poop a lot to attract even more flies and bugs. Only the head, hands, and feet are visible - the rest of the body is covered to cause a dark, humid environment to encourage the decay. I can't watch that show. Yes,they're geniuses, but they make something useful out of junk lying around, and it always works THE FIRST TIME THEY TRY IT!!! I'm an engineer, and even when everything goes right, things don't work as planned with carefully drawn up and analyzed components. But yeah, you can make a rescue capsule out of a discarded water heater on the fly, and it'll seal to a submarine (that you didn't even have the design specs for) so you can perform a deep sea rescue. And when the guy figures out that there's a slight statistical bias towards something to happen, it always happens as predicted. That's not how slight statistical bias works.
