Use tonic water instead of real water. Don't ingest! Just use for decor. And be careful when opening the sticks. I held it bent in a U and placed the U into the jar and cut it in the middle. This way it split apart, but the glow stick hit the sides of the jar which kept the fluid from splattering anywhere but into the jar. Then I filled with tonic water and slightly shook.
